Who qualifies?
• Persons seeking services generally must be referred by a social service agency or nonprofit program providing assistance to those living in poverty.
• Agape accepts families with an annual household income of no more than 200 percent of the federal poverty threshold, adjusted for family size.
• Candidates must be a resident of Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, or Leelanau Counties.

How does the program work?
• Social workers refer prospective clients to Agape Financial.
• An interview is scheduled with the candidate within two weeks.
• Prospective clients complete a one-page Client Intake Form.
• The case is reviewed by a minimum of three Agape board members. A decision is made shortly thereafter.
• If accepted, the client is matched with a mentor.
• The client and mentor are expected to meet at least four hours per month.
• There is no charge to the client.

Agape Financial matches low-resource adults with volunteers who provide one-on-one financial mentoring with the goal of helping low-income individuals escape poverty. This long-term program teaches financial skills in a personal, one-to-one mentoring environment. It helps individuals manage their resources and begin to avoid crisis situations. |
